Fzzzzk!!! Oh no!

Well, after many long years of service my old warhorse 17″ CRT monitor has finally given up the ghost.

After suddenly going a little wonky and filling the room with a rather unpleasant acrid smell it went, if you will, down the tube.

The upside to this of course is that I now have the perfect excuse to go and buy that 19″ TFT monitor I’ve wanted for so long.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Drains and Norton Internet Security

Posted: January 7th, 2006 | Author: Foamcow | Filed under: Vintage | | Comments Off

What a lovely afternoon. Out in the rain and cold with my arm down a drain filled with putrid water. It got even better as it got dark.

Eventually I managed to dislodge the big lump of grease and soap powder that was blocking the bloody thing.

Once I’d finished cleaning all the crap up and cleaning all the tools I came in for a nice hot bath, used half a bottle of mint and tea tree shower gel and I still stink of the bloody thing.

Bah!

Oh yes, and then there is Norton Internet Security. The single most problematic piece of software I have ever come across. After it performed a LiveUpdate to keep itself fresh and sparkly, it decided that it was in my best interests to no longer be able to send or receive email.

My softly, softly approach to fixing the problem wasn’t getting me anywhere so I adopted an approach similar to my drain clearence techniques. Ram the damn thing hard and keep poking it until it gets the message… and it worked. Who says violence never solved anything (probably someone who got punched in the face a lot)

If anyone knows of a decent alternative to Norton for antivirus and firewall protection, please, please, please tell me about it.

Bah again!

Back to work

Posted: January 3rd, 2006 | Author: Foamcow | Filed under: Vintage | | Comments Off

Well, it’s that time of year again. The after Christmas return to work is always difficult. Bah.

What will this year hold? So far I’m 30 minutes into the working day and no work has materlialised. I’m sure it’s the calm before the storm, and I can’t help wishing that I could just be left alone, just for one more day…

Right, so this year I’m going to really try harder to write here. I always say that and normally the good intentions go out the window within a week or so. But since this year is going to be really exciting for me it’s going to be hard not to fill this site with lots of insightful comment. No, really.

So, without further ado, I wish you a Happy New Year as I plunge headlong back into the untold joy that is work.

Hoo-bloody-ray
