About foamcow
(a.k.a. Pete Eveleigh)
My name is Pete Eveleigh. I am a web designer and creative artworker living in Gloucester, UK. Both Mac and Windows literate, I have worked in the graphic design and reprographics industry for around 12 years and I am currently working at an Marketing Agency in Gloucester, as a web designer and developer.
During my career I have worked at a number of graphic design agencies, a reprographics company, a Mac support company and even spent a stint as a freelance artworker/designer doing print and web work. These jobs have taken me to the heady heights of Cheltenham, Gloucester and Bath!
My dream is to move to Cornwall and set up my own web consultancy where I can give people the benefit of my often outspoken opinions on website design.
This site is built using XHTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL. I love web standards and I am endeavoring to follow them in this site (although I've learnt alot since building this site). I don't believe in "art for art's sake". I feel that despite all the whiz bang flash stuff, and glorious looking sites made with complex graphics, the top priority of any web page is to efficiently convey information. This is where *good* design comes into play. Good aesthetics help communication. Never has the adage "less is more" been more apt than on the web. For all the whizzy graphics that Flash can bring, if a page doesn't allow the user to disseminate the information they are looking for then the designer has failed.
Why foamcow?
Well, it all started many years ago when I first began to use the internet. I needed a login name for something, "Hmmm", I thought. Looking around I spied the collection of cows on my desk. They were made of foam, and so foamcow was born.
