Crystal DivX DVD player mutliregion hack

I bought a cheapo DVD player a while back, a Crystal DivX Slimline DVD player to be exact. It worked great for sometime, then I found I needed to update the firmware on it. Again no problems… or so I thought.
It seems that the udated firmware changed the region setting from 0 (multiregion) to 2 (Europe). Try explaining to a 2 year old that she can’t watch her US version of Finding Nemo!
I hunted around for a fix, but couldn’t find one, so I contacted the customer services at Aria Computers to see if they could help. Well they came up trumps and pointed me at a site with the required info.
Unfortunately the info wasn’t quite right, but after a bit of fiddling and lateral thinking I managed to crack it… so here is the info for anyone else that’s looking for it
- Switch on the player with no disc in the drive
- On the remote, press “Setup”
- Navigate to the “Parental” menu
- Press the button (0-6) for the region you want to set the player to (0=multiregion but may not work for some discs)
- Press the “Mute” button
- Press the left cursor
- Press the right cursor
- Press “OK”
- Switch off the power
To check if it worked:
- Open the disc tray
- Press “0″ 8 (eight) times and the region setting should be displayed on screen
If the hack didn’t work, try it while in the Setup menu rather than the parental menu, or failing that, with the tray open (I’ll clarify this when I get chance to test it again).
I know it seems like a Super Streetfighter II infinite lives hack, but I’ve got peace and quite this afternoon as my daughter goes swimming with Nemo.
Brilliant
I have the Phillips DIVX enabled DVD player and must say it\’s great
It plays every codec on the planet
