Have a go at this simple sum….
1 + 2 + 3 x 4
What’s your answer?

If answer was 15, then it would read 1 + 2 + (3 x 4)
24
15.

No parenthesis, no exponents.. there is multiplication;
1 + 2 + 12
no division.. there is addition;
P.S. Nice site. =)
In my opinion, the answer is 15 for the reasons stated by Justin. There is a set order for completing any equation.
Though in the UK the rule is sometimes taught as BODMAS
Brackets
Order
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction
This means that you solve anything in brackets first but if there are no brackets then you proceed in the order indicated by the rule.
